EFKRATO OLIVE OIL:
In Crete, we produce a premium, organic, extra virgin, high-phenolic olive oil exclusively from the ancient Cretan variety Tsounati, using the cold extraction method. Our olives are hand-harvested in the traditional way, from an olive grove nestled in nature. The area’s ideal climate and nutrient-rich soil create perfect conditions for fruiting.
Our cultivation practices go well beyond the standards of organic farming — so meticulous, they are nearly impossible to apply on a large scale. We rely primarily on sheep and horses to fertilize the land naturally, and each olive is hand-selected to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Only the batches with the most exceptional organoleptic characteristics are bottled.
ISLAND12:
Creating olive oil of this caliber requires the synergy of many elements: a unique location, a balanced microclimate, the health and care of the trees, natural fertilization by free-roaming animals, and above all, the producer’s unwavering commitment to unaltered quality and the cold extraction method.
The microclimate in the grove plays a vital role. It is just temperate enough to enhance the taste, stability, and aromatic complexity of the oil — giving it its distinctive character.
This is why we named our olive oil “Efkrato” — meaning “Temperate”. Derived from the ancient Greek word ἐύκρατος (efkratos), it blends eu- (good) and keránnymi (to mix, to combine) — a name that reflects the perfect harmony of the natural elements and human care behind its creation.
When designing the label, our goal was to visually express this harmony. At the heart of the composition is the olive fruit, surrounded by minimalist, abstract symbols representing each contributing factor — the grove, the climate, the seasons. These elements work in unison, year after year, nurturing the fruit until it ripens into the golden oil.
The final detail, an oversized droplet emerging from the olive, symbolizes the culmination of this natural and human collaboration: the precious oil of Efkrato.
